FI / Kuopio – Savonlinna survey tour

Day 1
Late evening flight HEL-Kuopio (2025-2120)
After a 20 min transfer we arrive in Kuopio – 8 largest city of Finland (100.000 habitants). It is well known as a university City as well as hosting City for FIS world cup ski jump competition.
We stayed at Spa Hotel Rauhalahti with typical finish atmosphere. Every Wednesday ladies night dance.

Day 2
Visited Kuopio Tower onroute to Savonlinna. First by coach and then a 2 hours boat ride on the beautiful Lake Saimaa.

Our boat trip ended at Holiday Resort Järvisydän where we could enjoy typical finish sauna – wooden-steamed and smoked. Of course with a swim in the Lake afterwards:)

We continued by coach to Lomamokkila for overnight.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the couple with their 3 small children. There are cows and dogs on the farm. It is close to the lake where they also have sauna facilities.
This is as close to homestay as you can get. The accommodation is at a farm and is run by the family. Breakfast is in the main building.

Day 3

Morning visit to Savonlinna and the castle. Every year in July they host world class operas.
Opera festival program 2014
In the afternoon we visited
Niinisaari farm and Island village before we continued to
Olimekki wine Farm
They produce wine from local finish berries.
Overnight at Art and Design villas at
Hotel Anttolanhovi
A beautiful place located at the lake with. … of course… sauna facilities. 🙂

Day 4
The last day we paid a short visit to a nice Mansion at the lake close to Mikkeli.
We started to make our own “Pirokki” (finnish pai) which was cooked while we enjoyed a visit at the Mansion.

They sold local souveniers and also had a local handicraft artist

Drive to Helsinki airport was approx 3 hours drive.
