All the Nordic countries have a lot of beautiful, quiet nature – often very close to the cities. Helsinki has the Nuuksio National Park, Stockholm has the UNESCO World Heritage site, The Woodland Cemetery, as well as the island Royal Djurgården famous for its many museums, parks, canals and forest paths.

Oslo has its own verdant sanctuaries, of which Ekeberg Sculpture Park and the Vigeland Park is of special note. The lake Sognsvann is also easily accessible, being at the end of the metro line.

Hiking is a national pastime in Norway due to the “Freedom to roam”, which is codified in law. As long as you leave no trace, you are allowed to enter the nature even in privately owned property.
